From WebMinds, the developer that brought you Easy File Shredder, an efficient tool for securely deleting the files you no longer need, comes a handy utility meant to make your computer run smoothly: RegAge. This application will give your PC a speed boost and ensure it works smoothly by fixing Registry issues and defragmenting the Registry, by optimizing your internet connection, by removing junk files, by letting you manage which applications launch at startup, and by letting you stop and restart services.

Download a 4.5MB executable and run it to install RegAce on your system. Please note that to run the application, your system must meet the following requirements: 400MHz processor or higher, 128MB of RAM or more, 5MB of free disk space, Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7. Even an older, low spec PC will easily meet RegAce’s system requirements.

You will find a list of buttons on the left hand side on RegAce’s interface: PC Optimizer, System Cleaner, Internet Optimizer, Service Manager, Defragmenter, Manage Startup, Backups, and Summary. What you see in the pane to the right changes based on what button you click on from the left. What does not change is the black speed dial and the Options, Updates, and Help buttons next to it.

From the PC Optimizer menu you can launch an on-demand scan of your system. If you don’t like this, just go to the Options menu and schedule a scan to be performed automatically. As I was saying, you can launch a scan of your system – said scan will uncover a variety of invalid Registry entries, from ActiveX objects and uninstall entries to empty Registry keys and erroneous file associations. Once the scan completes, you will be presented with a list of problems and you will be invited to fix those problems. You need to know that a registered version of RegAce will fix all problems; a trial version will only fix 20 problems and will do this just once.

From the System Cleaner menu you can find junk files and remove them. When I say junk files I mean cookies, internet history, temp files, data in the Recycle Bin, and other data that needlessly take up space on your system. The System Cleaner feature is not available in the trial version.

Give your internet connection a boost with the Internet Optimizer feature, view a list of running services with the Service Manager, and find out which applications automatically run at startup from Manage Startup.

Getting back to the Registry, RegAce can also defragment the Registry and restore the Registry to an earlier time. Before repairing invalid entries, the application creates a backup; you can use said backup to restore the Registry.

Incredibly easy to use and very good looking, the functionality RegAce brings to the table is a must have for anyone who wants a PC that runs smoothly.

Pros

The English, Spanish, and French languages are supported. RegAce’s system requirements are vey low. You will have no problems figuring out the application’s interface. Run on-demand scans or schedule them to take place automatically. Use RegAce to clean and defrag the Windows Registry, optimize your internet connection, manage services, manage startup items, and manage Registry backups.

Cons

Limited functionality in the trial version. The setup wizard wants to install the Ask Toolbar, make Ask the default search provider and set your homepage to Ask.com.
